I am a Sports Dietitian. And I know this world.
Over the past nine years I have worked with hundreds of jockeys and riders to improve their health, performance and relationship with food. I am not a dietitian who learned about racing and horses from a textbook. I grew up in it.
My father is world-renowned equine veterinarian Dr Timothy Roberts — veterinarian to Winx, Verry Elleegant, Nature Strip, Might and Power and many of the greatest horses this country has produced. Chances are some of you have crossed paths with him without knowing it. I grew up at Centennial Park Equestrian Centre and Randwick Racecourse, rode pre-training on Boban and Winx, mentored by the great horseman Stephen Gladstone and trained by many of the countries leading showjumpers, George Sanna and Krissy Harris. Horses aren’t my career. It is my upbringing.
I know your world. I know the pressure. And I know what it costs when nutrition is not taken seriously.
A word on weight.
Many jockeys and riders avoid seeing a dietitian because they are afraid of one thing: gaining weight. I want to be clear about this. My job is not to make you heavier. My job is to help you perform at your peak and for jockeys, assist them doing so whilst making weight. We will make weight smarter — in a way that protects your health, improves your performance and does not cost you your career in the process.
What we will work on together:
A making weight strategy tailored specifically to your body and how it works
Increased energy, sharper concentration and faster reaction times
Improved recovery between back-to-back race days
Reduced risk of falls and fractures
Less fatigue and fewer mood swings
Better sleep and a healthier appetite
Improved testosterone levels
Reduced risk of fertility complications — for both male and female athletes
Restoration of your menstrual cycle
A better relationship with food — and a better quality of life
This is not just nutrition advice. It is performance medicine for the athlete on the horse.
